BIOS
Nicholas Rucka is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film School. He has lived in Japan, speaks fluent Japanese, and holds an additional master’s degree in International Policy Studies. His Wasserman Finalist short film The Mule, winner of both the New York Magazine and the Microsoft Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, has been screened at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles and was recently sold to HBO Latin America. His new short film Out of the Darkness won a Warner Brothers Pictures Film Production Award at NYU and is now touring the festival circuit. In addition, he lectures and writes about Japanese cinema and is the US correspondent for 'midnighteye.com' – “the latest and best in Japanese cinema.” Currently, he is editing Edgewood Pictures’ feature documentary Beyond the Sun: The Legacy of the Kamikaze on the Japanese Tokkotai-Kamikaze force and is working on several feature screenplays including the ghost horror film Scorned, the NYC underground club drama Afterhours, and the revenge drama The Better Right of the Wrong.
