FILMMAKER BIO
After studying film theory under David Bordwell, a world-renowned film scholar, Rice built a successful career as an art director for Activision before entering graduate film school in Austin, Texas. He is the first person in history to be awarded two Student Academy Award Nominations in two different categories in the same year. His work has been showcased in five screenings at the Director’s Guild of America theatre, HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Slamdance, Manhattan Short Film Festival, The Hamptons International Film Festival, Aspen Shortsfest and on Showtime. A recipient of a Texas Filmmakers Production Fund grant, Rice now teaches screenwriting at the University of Texas at Austin, writes scripts, and directs commercials. He recently edited the upcoming indie comedy “Partner(s)” and continues work on his first book, Small Stories, Big Ideas: Demystifying the Short Film.
